Mike Van Ryn Can’t Win For Trying
We’re not gonna lie. It’s been a shitty couple of weeks for the Maple Leafs’ Mike Van Ryn. First he was helped through some glass on October 23rd. Relive the good times!
Van Ryn was probably thinking it couldn’t get much worse than that. Wrong. The Habs’ Tom Kostopoulous was jealous of Milan Lucic and decided to see if he could put Van Ryn through the glass too. Fail.
Bet he wishes the glass gave way that time although he would have taken it out with his face. This time, he stayed down and he’ll be out for a month with “a concussion, a gash on his forehead, a broken nose and a broken bone in his hand”. The NHL is going to review the hit and see if further penalties are warranted. Kostopoulous was given a major for boarding and ejected from the game.
Argue amongst yourselves or in the comment section over whether the hit was dirty. We know you’ll just do it amongst yourselves because you’re nothing but selfish bastards … Wow. I don’t know what just happened there. I’m sorry, baby. I didn’t mean that. I still care. Lemme put on some Luther Vandross (The Fat Years) and let’s work this shit out. Girl, you know we can’t get much better.

That was the exact kind of hit that put Patrice Bergeron out for the season last year. This kind of cowardice needs to be deleted from the NHL. The reason this goes on is because the instigator rule has nearly eliminated fighting. If Kostopoulous had any fear of retribution, he wouldn’t have made that hit.. but he knows the next time the Leafs play the Habs, anyone who goes after him will draw an instigator penalty.
Anyone who injures another player with a hit like this should serve a suspension that lasts as long as the player he hit is on the injured list. If Van Ryn doesn’t skate again this season, then neither should Kostopoulous.
P.S. I am not a Leaf fan.
This is rediculous. There is a trend developing in the NHL. Let me just turn my back so i won’t get hit. Kudos to Kostopoulous for finishing his check anyway. With more of these chicken s*** players getting knocked out maybe players will go back to the way things used to work. Go in for the puck hard and take the hit to make the play. Don’t turn your back to try and avoid getting hit.
iT IS CLEAR TO ME THAT IF YOU ARE A MAPLE LEAF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUNCES FOR CHECKING SOME ONE SO VISCIOUSLY BUT, ON THE OTHER HAND IF YOU PLAY FOR MONTREAL OR ANY OTHER TEAM THE POWERS THAT BE TREAT IT AS THOUGH IT NEVER HAPPENED. THE VISIOUS ATTACK ON VAN RYN SHOULD BE TREATED IN THE SAME FASION AS ANY OTHER IN THE LEAUGE, THIS GUY SHOULD GET AT LEAST 6 TO 10 GAMES SUSPENSION WITHOUT PAY FOR THAT COWARLY HIT.

It wasn’t a dirty hit at all if Van Ryn hadn’t turned around at the last second like a pussy trying to use the rules of the game to avoid contact nothing would have happened to him. On another note Glen Seip you are a moron he recieved a 3 game suspension for his first offense where as Holliweg of the Leafs only got a 2 game suspension ( the minimum suspension for a third offense) for what was a much much dirtier hit in a pre season game against the blues.
Yep - NHL guys are pussies .. umm SURE they are! Easy to comment like that sitting on your piss stained couch with a Milwakee’s Best in your hand!

Van Ryn had his back to the hitter all the way. People want to say he turned at the last second, but he was playing the puck, and unless he did it behind his back and then turned, super fast, then how can you say he turned at the last second? He made the play and got hit, illegally, into the boards, from behind.
He could have made it better by taking away some of the space between himself and the boards, but that should not matter. It was a cheap hit, and I agree that the hit should equal a suspension equal to the time lost for the injured player. Until that happens, the goons won’t stop running guys and taking head shots.
I can’t say I would be disappointed if a Leafs player took Kostopoulos out in the next game between the 2. In fact, if the league won’t do anything about it, I would expect it.
Kostopoulous had him lined up all the way, after watching the video over and over it’s plain to see he intended to hurt Van Ryn. The end.
